Things to do in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort dominates Jaisalmer, transporting you back to the times of camel-riding warriors and affluent royalty. Explore this 12th-century sandstone fortress to find ornate Jain temples, intricate stone carvings and mesmerising religious idols. The fort’s laneways reveal various cultural attractions, including the Jaisal Art Gallery and Raja Ka Mahal. The latter is a former palace turned museum with priceless furnishings and belongings from its palace days.

Head to The Thar Heritage Museum for guided tours through the comprehensive collection of folk art and historical artefacts, including cooking tools and sand sculptures. Afterwards, visit the Folklore Museum to see culturally-significant artefacts, such as ancient ruins.

Drive six kilometres from Jaisalmer to see the 16th-century stone cenotaphs at Bada Bagh before visiting the majestic Bara Bagh Temple. Discover more about local life in the Thar Desert at the Desert Cultural Centre, which showcases traditional Rajasthani culture through artwork and nightly puppet shows.

Nature lovers can visit the picturesque Gadisar Lake, which is dotted with ancient structures rising out of the water and offers boat hires. Don’t miss seeing the two-storey Tilon Ki Pol Gadisar Lake, a dominating sandstone gateway to the lake. Gadisar Lake is also surrounded by numerous scenic parks and the Shree Laxminathji Bagechi community garden.
