About Borjomi

Famed for its mineral spring water believed to have curative properties, Borjomi is a charming resort town in the heart of Georgia. It forms part of the scenic Borjomi Gorge and lies on the doorstep of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, as well as the former summer retreat of the Russian tsar, Nicholas II.

Things to do in Borjomi

In the heart of town is Borjomi Central Park, which encompasses Borjomi’s original water source, the Ekaterina Spring. You can relax in one of the spring-fed swimming pools or enjoy the family-friendly amusement rides, including a Ferris wheel. A cable car connects to the nearby mountain, from where there are sweeping views across Borjomi.

Learn about the people and events that have shaped the region at the Borjomi Museum of Local History, which is housed in the former offices of the House of Romanov. Established in 1926, its exhibits include Bronze Age monuments and wood carvings dating from the 18th century, as well as displays showcasing the flora and fauna of the Borjomi Gorge. See the first bottle of Borjomi mineral water from 1890 and admire valuable china from the nearby Romanov Palace.

Sprawling west of Borjomi is Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, which encompasses more than 85,000 hectares of native forest and alpine meadows. Follow the 13-kilometre-long Footprint Trail that meanders through the Likani River valley, taking in rare yew species and the historic Mariamtsminda Church. Horse riding and mountain biking excursions are offered during the warmer months while snowshoes can be rented for exploring in the winter.

Borjomi is a 30-minute drive from Khashuri and around 2.5 hours from Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport. Buses connect from destinations across Georgia to Borjomi while the town centre can easily be explored on foot.
