About Christies Beach

Christies Beach is a lively seaside suburb on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Relax on the family-friendly beach and make a splash with water-based activities like kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing. Towering pines shade Beach Road, a bustling thoroughfare lined with shops, cafes and eateries.

Things to do in Christies Beach

Golden sand and turquoise water make Christies Beach popular with Adelaide locals. Sunbathe on the beach, cool off in the Southern Ocean and swim out to the offshore reef. Lifeguards patrol the section in front of the Surf Lifesaving Club. Find grassy play areas, picnic tables and public barbecues in the park opposite the beach. Palm trees offer plenty of shade.

Pine trees line Beach Road and create a laid-back coastal atmosphere. Walking around the town centre, you’ll see colourful street murals and beach-themed mosaics. Satisfy your appetite at a locally owned cafe or pick up fish and chips and enjoy a picnic in the park.

Shop for arts, crafts and antiques at the twice-monthly Original Open Air Market. In addition to second-hand clothes and bric-a-brac the market is a great place to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods and homemade preserves.

Stretch your legs on the Coast Park Path. It stretches along the coast for 70 kilometres and passes through Christies Beach. The trail to Port Noarlunga is another beautiful coastal walk and skirts the base of rugged limestone cliffs.

Use Christies Beach as a launchpad to explore McLaren Vale, one of the most iconic winemaking regions in Australia. Tour local wineries and try full-bodied Shiraz and smooth Grenache with hints of raspberry, plum and cinnamon.

Getting around Christies Beach

Christies Beach is compact and easy to get around on foot. The suburb is in the Adelaide metropolitan area, a 40-minute drive from the Adelaide city centre and 1.5 hours by bus.
