One of the best places in Australia to see migrating whales, Eden enjoys a splendid setting on the Sapphire Coast. It’s set on one of the deepest natural harbours in the Southern Hemisphere, with the town clustered on a bluff between the waters of Twofold Bay and Nullica Bay.
Things to do in Eden
If you’re visiting Eden between May and November, turn your eyes towards the water to spot whales as they migrate through Twofold Bay and along the coast of Ben Boyd National Park. Snug Cove is home to the Sapphire Marine Discovery Centre where you can learn more about these gentle giants of the sea.
The self-drive Killer Whale Trail offers fascinating insight into the history of whale hunting along the Sapphire Coast. Visit the Eden Killer Whale Museum to hear the legendary story of Old Tom, a killer whale that once assisted whalers in their work.
Follow a section of the coastal Light to Light walk, which connects Green Cape Lighthouse with Boyds Tower. It was built as a lighthouse by Benjamin Boyd in 1847 and offers magnificent views along the coast.

Getting there
Eden is just over six hours’ drive from Sydney and Melbourne or over three hour’s drive from Canberra. The town is easy to explore on foot, with public buses connecting Eden to the neighbouring towns.
