Things to do in Fehmarn Island
With almost 80 kilometres of coastline to discover, Fehmarn Island is a beach lover’s paradise. The island is also one of the sunniest places in Germany. Admire more than 50 species of butterflies, as well as vibrant tropical flowers, iguanas and birds, at the Fehmarn Butterfly Park. Learn about the island’s seafaring past at the U11 U-Boot Museum. The museum occupies a retired German navy submarine and features exhibits on the Cold War and mighty German naval fleet.
Spot egrets, cormorants, tufted ducks other species at the Wallnau Waterbird Reserve. It’s one of the country’s most important migratory bird reserves and protects 300 hectares of ponds, meadows, wetlands and Baltic Sea beaches. Getting around Fehmarn Island
Rental cars are an easy and flexible way to visit Fehmarn Island. A bridge connects the island with the German mainland. The island is a one-hour drive from Lübeck and two hours from Hamburg, while trains run between Hamburg and Fehmarn-Burg Station in around three hours.
