About Goren

Established in 1950 by Yemeni and North African immigrants, Goren is an Israeli moshav in the Western Galilee region. It lies on the doorstep of the Nakhal Kziv Reserve, a peaceful, protected area famed for its Crusader-era castle ruins.

Stretch your legs along one of the hiking trails that wind through Goren Park, a large tract of native Israeli common oak woodland that has been protected since 1963. In the surrounding Nakhal Kziv Reserve is the ruined Montfort Fortress, a 12th-century Crusader castle perched atop a steep ridge above the Kziv Stream.

On the other side of Goren is the archaeological site of Khurvat Daniela, which lies within the wooded nature reserve of Nahal Betset. It is believed to have been settled by the Romans and was expanded in the Byzantine period, with the discovery of five olive oil presses providing evidence of the settlement’s economy.

Getting there

Goren is around 20 minutes’ drive from Nahariyya and 45 minutes from Haifa Airport, which has regular flights to Eilat and Larnaca. The much larger Ben Gurion Airport is just under two hours away. Buses travel to Goren and the moshav is small enough to explore on foot.
