About Mazagón

Overlooking the Gulf of Cadiz, Mazagon is a coastal town fringed by wild, dune-backed beaches. It lies on the doorstep of the bird-filled Parque Nacional de Doñana and a botanical garden dedicated to species native to Andalusia’s Atlantic coastline.

Things to do in Mazagón

Mazagon is surrounded by beautiful beaches where you can spend your days, including Playa de Mazagon. Beach umbrellas and sun loungers are available for rent and there are several cafes where you can dine throughout the day. Adjacent is Playa de las Dunas, a quieter beach with calm waters that are ideal for families. Further west lies the pine-backed sands of Playa de Alcor.

Sprawling to the east of Mazagon is Parque Nacional de Doñana, an important wetland reserve that provides habitat for migratory birds travelling between Europe and Africa. Encompassing more than 1,300 square kilometres, it’s home to one of the world’s largest colonies of Spanish imperial eagles, as well as colourful flamingos and a variety of geese. You can explore the park on its hiking and cycling trails, join a horse riding excursion or opt for an off-road guided tour.

To the west of Mazagon is the Jardín Botánico Dunas del Odiel, which is planted with species found between the mouth of the Guadiana River and the Cliffs of Barbate. Stretch your legs on the walking trails dotted with interpretive displays detailing the region’s plant life and its coastal adaptations.

Getting around Mazagón

Mazagon is a 15-minute drive from the Huelva railway station, from where trains connect to Seville and Madrid. Seville Airport is 1.5 hours’ drive from Mazagon and has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to and around Mazagon.
