About Montreuil, Hauts-de-France

Montreuil-sur-Mer is a fortified town crowned by a star-shaped fortress. Hidden behind ancient walls, the town is set on the Canche River and cradles centuries of history. Walk around the cobbled centre filled with beautifully restored townhouses and churches, explore the ruins of a royal castle built in the 12th century and stroll along grass-covered ramparts.

Discover a maze of cobbled streets and squares behind the ancient town walls. Most are lined with picturesque townhouses decorated with colourful wooden shutters and flower-filled window boxes. Cafes spill onto Place du Général de Gaulle and serve coffee, croissants and Maroilles tart, a local specialty made with sharp cow’s milk cheese.
