About Mostaganem, Algeria

Divided in two by the Aïn Sefra River, Mostaganem overlooks the Mediterranean Sea on Algeria’s north-west coast. It is built atop the ancient Punic port of Murustaga and later became part of the Roman Empire before being ruled by the Zirid, Almoravid and Zayyanid dynasties. In the 16th century, the city came under the power of Hayreddin Barbarossa and an Ottoman-built fortress still stands today.
