About Mount Pleasant

The Vancouver neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant has undergone a huge redevelopment in recent years, turning it into one of the most up and coming areas in British Columbia. Located to the south of Downtown and east of Kitsilano, it has evolved into an artsy hub for dozens of boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and cafes. Along the way, it’s collected a unique atmosphere, which finds a balance between modern multiculturalism and bohemian-style.

Life and attractions in Mount Pleasant revolve around the area on Main Street, south of 2nd Avenue. Mount Pleasant is also where beer markets meet coffee shops, and all the clothing stores sell handmade products. With its vibrant mix of shops, this South Main area symbolises the neighbourhood’s youthful vibe. Follow Main Street further south, and there are clusters of antique stores, plus large department stores and a massive array of restaurants. From sushi to seafood, steak to hipster vegan takeaways, this is an area that can satisfy any taste buds. In the heart of Mount Pleasant is Queen Elizabeth Park, a green space converted from an old quarry. Walk through the gardens and ponds to the top of the park, and there are sublime views across the whole city.

SkyTrain stations are dotted around the outskirts of the neighbourhood, including Olympic Village, Broadway-City Hall, Main Street, and King Edward. Buses run through the neighbourhood, the most useful being Route 99, from Kitsilano through Mount Pleasant to the eastern side of Vancouver. Vancouver International Airport lies to the south and is also on the SkyTrain network.

Back in the late 19th century, the area was known as Brewery Creek. The stream running through the area was used to create main local beers, helping the area grow into Vancouver’s first suburb.
