About Princes' Islands

Set off the coast of Istanbul, Prince Islands feels worlds away from the buzz of the city. The archipelago is made up of nine islands, including beautiful Büyükada with its flower-filled streets and pastel-coloured townhouses. Head up to Hagia Yorgi Church for sweeping views over the islands and the sparkling Sea of Marmara.

Heybeliada is the second largest island and is fringed by postcard-perfect beaches and lush pine forests. As you explore the island, you’ll notice the beautiful villas built by wealthy holidaymakers in the 19th century. There are no cars on the Prince Islands, with locals getting around on foot or by bicycle. You’ll also see horse-drawn carriages rumbling down the streets.

From traditional Turkish bakeries to clifftop restaurants, you’ll find plenty of places to wine and dine when visiting the Prince Islands. Try local specialties like “kofte” meatballs, “borek” stuffed savoury pastries and grilled octopus. Wash down your meal with a glass of sweet apple tea.

Getting there

Regular sea buses depart from Istanbul and service four of the nine Prince Islands - Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada and Kınalıada. Trips take around one hour. Ferries are a cheaper option, though the passage can take up to two hours.
