Rheingau Wine Region produces some of the finest Rieslings in the world. The south-facing vineyards are drenched in sunshine and sheltered by the Taunus Mountains. Rheingau Wine Region also appeals to history buffs, with centuries-old castles and monasteries dotted across the hillsides.
The region is peppered with picturesque towns and villages with rich winemaking heritage. Eltville is the largest town and is built around a 14th-century castle set in a rose garden. Rudesheim am Rhein is another great base and will charm you with its half-timbered houses and cosy wine bars.
From small family-run vineyards to estates endorsed by the likes of Queen Victoria, there are dozens of wineries to visit in the region. Rieslings are a local specialty, with wine enthusiasts praising the light-bodied wine with hints of citrus, white flowers and stone fruit. Rheingau Wine Region also bottles some of the finest Beerenauslese and Trockenbeernenauslese wines in Germany, which appeal to sweeter palates.

The Rheingau Wine Region occupies more than 3,000 hectares of land on the northern banks of the Rhine River. Eltville is a 40-minute drive from Frankfurt and 15 minutes from Wiesbaden. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Rheingau Wine Region at your own pace.
