About Röbel

Overlooking a tranquil inlet on the western shore of Lake Müritz, Röbel is a picturesque town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is dominated by the soaring tower of the Marienkirche and is home to beautifully preserved half-timbered buildings. Röbel serves as a gateway to the breathtaking landscapes of Müritz National Park.

Things to do in Röbel

In the historic heart of Röbel is the Marienkirche, which was established in the 13th century and is topped by a 58-metre-high tower dating back to the mid-19th century. Its interior is beautifully decorated with Neo-Gothic furnishings and ornamental 14th-century paintings, as well as an organ built by Johann Jochen Schmidt. Outside the church are two memorials dedicated to the victims of the World Wars.

Occupying Röbel’s half-timbered former synagogue is a small museum about the Jewish history of Mecklenburg and one of its most prominent residents, Israel Jacobson. Learn about his pioneering role in improving the lives of Jewish people and promoting understanding between Jews and Christians throughout Europe.

Sprawling east of Röbel is Müritz National Park, which encompasses more than 130 lakes, wild moors and ancient beech forests. Hiking and cycling trails wind their way through the park and offer encounters with ospreys, cranes and white-tailed eagles. You can explore the waters of Lake Müritz via steamboat or soak up the 360-degree views from the Aussichtsturm Käflingsberg tower. In the village of Ankershagen is the Heinrich Schliemann Museum, which celebrates the archaeologist’s findings.
