About Rodez

Rodez is a romantic city set on the banks of the Aveyron River. Nicknamed the “Pink City”, it’s filled with handsome historic buildings made from rose-coloured sandstone. Get lost in the winding streets of the Old Town, marvel at architectural jewels like Rodez Cathedral and work your way through some of the best art galleries and museums in the South of France.

Things to do in Rodez

Rodez Cathedral is one of the most beautiful pink sandstone buildings in the city - the magnificent Gothic façade took more than 300 years to complete. Inside you’ll be impressed by colourful stained-glass windows and elaborately carved wooden stalls. Climb the staircase up the 87-metre-high bell tower for sweeping views over the city.

Soulages Museum occupies an award-winning contemporary building and celebrates one of the country’s most famous abstract artists. Admire hundreds of works by Pierre Soulage, including paintings and prints. There’s also a fantastic exhibit on the stained-glass windows Soulage designed for Romanesque landmark, Conques Abbey. Visit the nearby Fenaille Museum to marvel at one of the largest collections of menhir “standing stone” statues in Europe.

It’s easy to spend hours strolling around the cobbled streets and sun-drenched squares of the Old Town. Stop for lunch at a sidewalk café, shop for souvenirs and stock up on cheese, baguettes and fresh produce at the colourful farmer’s market held on Wednesdays and Sundays. Berges de Layoule skirts the banks of the Aveyron River and is the city’s signature green space. Enjoy a picnic on the grass and stretch your legs on the scenic riverside trails.
