Often referred to as the “Beach of the Roses”, Roseto degli Abruzzi is a popular seaside resort on Italy’s Adriatic coast. It has been inhabited since Roman times and is located just a stone’s throw from Montepagano, a medieval hilltop hamlet dotted with centuries-old churches.

Things to do in Roseto degli Abruzzi

Spend your days relaxing on the sands of Roseto degli Abruzzi, which stretches between the Tordino and Vomano rivers. Beach umbrellas and sun loungers are available for rent and there are plenty of restaurants and bars backing the promenade where you can dine throughout the day. In addition to pizzerias, sushi joints and eateries specialising in seafood, there are numerous ice creameries.

Art enthusiasts shouldn’t miss a visit to the Villa Comunale, a typical Abruzzo noble residence constructed between 1890 and 1920 that houses the Civic Art Gallery of Roseto degli Abruzzi. It features paintings by the 19th-century local artists Raphael and Pasquale Celommi, hosts temporary exhibitions and showcases works that have received the Celommi Prize.

Located just inland from Roseto degli Abruzzi is the medieval hamlet of Montepagano, which feels a world away from the beachside resort.
