Sir Bani Yas Island sits just offshore and is dominated by the Arabian Wildlife Park. Nature walks and safaris are a great way to spot roaming giraffes, cheetahs and gazelles. You can also visit a handful of archaeological sites, including the ruins of an ancient Christian monastery.

Fringed by golden beaches and swaying palms, the Jebel Dhanna resort district is popular with sunseekers. It's home to a handful of luxury resorts complete with lush gardens, sparkling swimming pools, tennis courts and on-site day spas.

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun-drenched Arabian Gulf, with fantastic swimming and snorkelling spots located just offshore. Stand-up paddleboarding and sea kayaking are a great way to cool off, while scuba divers will love exploring a nearby shipwreck.

From luxury jewellery to high-end fashion, the Ruwais Mall is packed full of specialty stores. It also features a bustling food court, bowling alley and cinema complex. Kids will love the family-friendly ice rink and FunVille play centre.

Getting around

The easiest way to get around Al Ruwais is with a rental car or private driver, while taxis also provide convenient transport. The city is 250 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi, with the drive taking approximately two hours. Al Hamra is the closest airport, located around 30 minutes away.
