About Salamander Bay

Located where the Karuah River meets the Pacific Ocean, Salamander Bay is a coastal suburb of Port Stephens. It is named after a Third Fleet convict ship that entered Port Stephens in 1791. Originally home to the Worimi people, the area was settled by Captain William Cromarty in 1829 after he was granted land by NSW Governor Ralph Darling.
