About Sheboygan

Located on the western shore of Lake Michigan, Sheboygan is a waterfront city north of Milwaukee. It was inhabited by Native American tribes before the arrival of French fur traders in the 17th century and was settled by migrants from New York and New England in the 1830s.

Travelling with kids? Don’t miss a visit to the Above & Beyond Children's Museum, which is set across three floors in the heart of Sheboygan. It is packed with hands-on and interactive exhibits, as well as housing a Reusable Resource Center on its lower floor. Kids can play on the Whompamaphone, learn about gravity at the Flight Site and explore the rope mesh Sky Crawl.

A short walk away is the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a contemporary museum and performing arts complex that was founded in 1967. It encompasses a house built by the industrialist John Michael Kohler that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The centre regularly hosts exhibitions by Wisconsin-based artists and presents an annual summer theatre program.

If you want to take a dip in the waters of Lake Michigan, make a beeline for South Side Municipal Beach. At the northern end are the pools and waterslides of Breaker Bay Water Park while to the south is a popular kitesurfing beach. On the other side of the Sheboygan River is Deland Park, where you’ll find the remains of the “Lottie Cooper”, a schooner that capsized nearby in 1894.
