About Eastern Suburbs

Encompassing some of Sydney’s most affluent residential areas, the Eastern Suburbs extend to the east and south-east of the CBD between Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay. It’s here that you’ll find the legendary sands of Bondi Beach and the heritage mansions of Potts Point, as well as the Paddington Markets and Darlinghurst’s famous Oxford Street.

Things to do in Eastern Suburbs

Directly east of the Sydney CBD is Potts Point, where leafy streets are lined with Art Deco buildings that house designer fashion boutiques and trendsetting cafes. Head south to experience the pulsing nightlife of King’s Cross or explore the vintage stores, art galleries and hidden bars of Darlinghurst, which is rapidly emerging as one of Sydney’s hippest neighbourhoods.

Spend a day relaxing on the golden crescent of sand that is Bondi Beach, famed for its consistent surf and year-round Icebergs ocean pool. You can enjoy a lazy brunch in one of the health-conscious cafes that back the esplanade before walking it off on the spectacular clifftop pathway that links Bondi to the family-friendly sands of Coogee.

Craftspeople and designers have found a home at the Paddington Markets, which showcases one-of-a-kind homewares, accessories and clothing. To the south lie the picturesque ponds, playgrounds and walking paths of Centennial Park, which is also home to a French medieval labyrinth and the Ian Potter Children's WILD PLAY Garden. You can watch the Aussies in action at the Sydney Cricket Ground or catch a big-name international band at the adjacent Hordern Pavilion.

Getting around Eastern Suburbs

The Eastern Suburbs are around 20 minutes’ drive from the Sydney CBD and 15 minutes from Sydney Airport. Buses are the main means of getting around the area, with trains also connecting to Bondi Beach and Edgecliff railway station.
