Things to do in Lower North Shore
If you’re visiting in the hot, summer months, you can cool off with a swim at the North Sydney Olympic Pool, which was designed in an Inter-War Free Classical style. It was constructed shortly after the completion of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with its pool boasting a front-row seat on the edge of the harbour.
Travelling with kids? You can spend a day at Luna Park Sydney, which is instantly recognisable due to the huge smiling face that dominates its entrance. Brave the Wild Mouse roller coaster or ride the classic Carousel, then soak up the elevated views across Sydney Harbour from the Ferris Wheel. If amusement parks aren’t your thing, you can enjoy the iconic vistas of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the waterfront trails of nearby Bradfield Park.
A short stroll along the shores of Lavender Bay will take you to Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden, a glorious oasis of sculpture-dotted pathways that was created by the wife of renowned Australian artist Brett Whiteley. Don’t miss the Kirribilli Markets, which offers fresh produce, vintage fashions and artisan goods.
Getting there
The Lower North Shore is a 10-minute drive from Sydney’s CBD and around 20 minutes from Sydney Airport. Trains connect to North Sydney, Waverton and Wollstonecraft railway stations while buses are the main means of getting around the Lower North Shore’s other suburbs.
