Overlooking the waters of Lake Siljan, Tällberg is a charming village in Sweden’s Dalarna County. Once a small farming settlement, it’s renowned for its timber buildings dating back to the early 20th century, many of which are painted Falun red.
Magnificent views across Lake Siljan are on offer from Holens Gammelgård, which served as the home and studio of architect Gustaf Ankarcrona. It is clustered with timber buildings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries and home to a cafe first established in 1935. In addition to serving light meals and hot drinks, the cafe is famed for its waffles with cloudberry jam.
Want to stretch your legs? Stroll along the scenic promenade that fringes Lake Siljan, which is renowned for its so-called “church boats”. Originally used to row villagers to church on Sundays, these unique vessels are showcased during mid-summer boat racing festivals.
Getting there
Tällberg is around an hour's drive from Dala Airport, which has limited flights to destinations across Europe, and three hours from the much larger Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Regular trains and buses connect to the Tällberg railway station and most of the village sites can be accessed on foot.
