Things to do in The Big Island

Don’t miss the enchanting lava glow from the Halemaʻumaʻu viewpoint in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. There are over 240 kilometres of hiking trails, where you’ll uncover lush rainforest and ancient lava tubes.

While most of Hawaii’s beaches are white or gold, Punaluu sets itself apart with jet-black volcanic sand. It’s fringed by leafy coconut palms and is a haven for Hawaiian green sea turtles that love to bask on the beach.

Snorkel and scuba among tropical fish and spinner dolphins on the Kona Coast. Swim within centimetres of manta rays, one of the largest fish in the ocean, or embark on a thrilling night snorkel or dive trip. Stargaze atop Mauna Kea, the tallest sea mountain in the world, where the stars light up the night sky like glitter.

Operated by the Kona Historical Society, guided tours of the Kona Coffee Living History Farm offer a fascinating glimpse at The Big Island’s most lucrative export. You’ll get a chance to stroll around the orchards, peer into the processing mill, visit the drying roofs and tour the main house.
