The staff managed to turn what would have been an ordinary/potentially pleasant stay into a nightmare. Upon being given our room, which was small and stuffy, but tidy and clean, one of us went to use the toilet and it did not flush. Having stayed at many a hotel in my life (I travel a LOT) I was not even slightly worried. We'll call reception and they'll have someone come up and fix it, no problem. I was wrong. The receptionist first said she'd check what she can do and call me back. She didn't. When I called 15 minutes later she gave me attitude like 'why are you calling me again?', then after trying to blame us for breaking the toilet (if you're rough with it then the next time it won't flush - forget that this was the FIRST FLUSH that didn't work) she then went on to say that she can't call a plumber at this hour (5pm) and we'll have to wait until morning. I got two words out, 'huh? but...' before she HUNG UP on me. It went downhill from there. We went downstairs to say that a working toilet is a necessity and she needs to do something. She refused to do anything for us. We insisted she call the manager, who was the owner. Thinking we couldn't understand french, she said that we had broken the toilet and were INSISTING that she call and so on. The manager/owner did nothing. We asked for another room, she said they were booked out. We asked if there was another toilet we could use, she said no (we later found one downstairs in the dungeon that they call a breakfast room). Eventually she said the night manager MIGHT be able to fix it, but she made no promises. At 10.30 we got back from dinner to find the night manager there. He hadn't even been to our room. He came up, pulled something out of a tiled wall (worth mentioning that it was tiled in, otherwise we would have opened up the cistern and fixed it ourselves) and made the half flush work (full flush did not work the entire stay). As he went to leave, he said, 'you know you have to be gentle with it'.
