Where to stay in Augusta

About Augusta

Augusta is a laid-back coastal settlement that overlooks the waters of Hardy Inlet, a destination popular for its family-friendly fishing holidays. It serves as the gateway to the rugged scenery of Cape Leeuwin and offers world-class windsurfing, kite surfing and whale watching.

Things to do

Climb to the top of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the tallest of its kind in mainland Australia. It offers incredible views of where the Southern and Indian oceans meet and is one of the best places to spot migrating whales between May and September.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse marks the starting point of the 135-kilometre-long Cape to Cape Track that extends north to the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. This iconic trail takes walkers through rugged bushland and dramatic coastal scenery while passing sprawling vineyards and pristine beaches.

Drive to Jewel Cave, the largest show cave in Western Australia. Join a guided tour through its three massive chambers to witness stunning stalactites and intricate crystal decorations, then learn about the geological forces at play in the interpretive centre.

Want to see one of the tallest tree species in the world? Enjoy a scenic drive through the Boranup Karri Forest where karri trees tower over 60 metres in height. Soak up the views of Hamelin Bay from the Boranup Lookout and embark on one of the wildflower walking trails.

Getting around

Augusta is 3.5 hours’ drive south of Perth International Airport and is connected to the Perth by regular bus services. You can explore the town on foot or by bicycle, but having your own vehicle is best for accessing the surrounding natural attractions.
