About Brisbane River

Winding its way through the city of Brisbane, the Brisbane River is the longest waterway in South-East Queensland. It flows 344 kilometres from Mount Stanley to Moreton Bay and has been dammed to form Lake Wivenhoe, which is the main source of water for the Queensland capital.

Rent a kayak at Kangaroo Point to explore the Brisbane River from the water or get an elevated view while climbing up and abseiling back down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. A network of walking trails follow the river along most of its route through Brisbane, with several sections built out over the water.

Restaurants and bars cluster on the River Quay Green at South Bank, which is also home to a family-friendly beach, the Epicurious Garden and the Collective Markets. The Eagle Street Pier is renowned for its dining and nightlife venues while boasting some of Brisbane’s best views of the iconic Story Bridge.

Getting there

The Brisbane River is a short stroll from the CBD and around 20 minutes’ drive from Brisbane Airport. City Cat ferries are one of the most popular ways to explore the waterway and several buses stop along its route.
