About Dana Point

Dana Point is a coastal town in southern Orange County, California bordered on two sides by the Pacific Ocean and Laguna Niguel to the north. The town is infamous for its exclusive Dana Point Harbour, a notable California Historical Landmark. Dana Point’s cultural charm, ocean scenery, and year-long beachfront activity appeal to locals and tourists alike.

The Dana Point Harbour and easy beach accessibility make for excellent surfing, boating, fishing, and whale watching opportunities. The area offers intriguing shops, luxurious beaches, and a multitude of state parks as well as the preserved hiking area allocated by the Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center. Many visitors also enjoy touring the Pilgrim, a replica of the historic sailing ship attributed to the area’s name.

Biking and walking are popular forms of transportation around Dana Point. The nearest airport is the John Wayne Airport located 40 kilometres away. Cars are the easiest forms of transit to and from the point along the San Diego Freeway or Pacific Coast Highway.

The history of Dana Point is rooted in surfing due to ideal waves produced by the enclosing cliffs and protected coves. The area is explicitly remembered for its famous break “Killer Dana” until the wave was ruined with the construction of Dana Point Harbour in 1966.
