Rimming Hanrim Park on Jeju-do Island, Hyeopjae Beach boasts sugar-white sand and crushed seashells, creating an other-worldly natural texture. The seashore rambles for about nine kilometres, framing cobalt-blue waters and emerald forests. There’s also an unobstructed view of Mount Hallasan.
Within Hanrim Park you’ll also find caves, including Hyeopjaegul Cave and Ssangyonggul Cave, the only known two-dimensional caves in the world. If you feel like shopping, head over to Palm Tree Road. Families enjoy the park’s folk village and small amusement park.
From Hyeopjae Beach, you can take a 15-minute boat ride to Biyangdo Island for swimming and sunbathing. In the evening, snag a table at Dolharubang restaurant for traditional Korean meals, such as samda bibimbap rice dishes and kkwong kalguksu noodle soup.
Getting there
Hyeopjae Beach sits about 33 kilometres west of Jeju City. From Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal, take an express bus and exit at the Hanrim Park stop after about 50 minutes. If arriving at Jeju Airport, you can rent a car or take a taxi for the 45-minute drive to the beach.
