About Kowloon

Kowloon, Cantonese for “nine dragons”, sits on a peninsula to the north of Hong Kong and is considered one of Asia’s top shopping and nightlife destinations. The area was named by the Song Dynasty’s Emperor Bring and is renowned for its rich history.

Things to do in Kowloon

At the tip of the peninsula sits the hip area of Tsim Sha Tsui, brimming with young students and cool bars, while Mong Kok is famous for its market area and shopping facilities. The region is also home to Shanghai Street, one of Hong Kong’s most eclectic and vibrant streets.

For the best views over Hong Kong Island, head down to Kowloon Waterfront. For cocktails with a view, head to Eyebar over by the harbor where you can watch the daily Symphony of Lights laser light show at night.

If you’re in search of some green space, visit the 13-hectare Kowloon Park to find manicured gardens, a large pond, and an impressive water feature. The garden is also home to the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, which provides an educative insight into the area's history through fascinating exhibits.

Getting there

Hong Kong International Airport is a 30-minute drive west of Kowloon. From the airport, take the Airport Express train directly to Kowloon MTR Station or take a local bus. When in Kowloon, you can take advantage of the city’s MTR subway system, while taxis are also readily available.
