About La Herradura

La Herradura is a vibrant seaside resort set on the Costa Tropical. The horseshoe-shaped bay is one of the top resorts on the Andalucian coast and features stunning beaches, world-class dive sites and a postcard-perfect Old Town.

Things to do in La Herradura

The Old Town, also known as Casco Antiquo, oozes Andalucian charm. The winding streets are paved with colourful tiles and lined with whitewashed structures. Everywhere you look, you’ll see hot-pink Bougainvillea flowers cascading down the walls and pots overflowing with geraniums.

La Herradura was once a strategic Roman seaport. The capes on either side of the town are guarded by Roman towers built to protect La Herradura from pirate raids. Both can be accessed via scenic coastal walking trails. Climb to the top of the tower at Cerro Gordo Point for spectacular views over the coast. Look out for Iberian ibex wild goats grazing on the clifftops.

Clear water and vibrant marine life make La Herradura a scuba diving mecca. Learn to dive with local scuba schools and explore coral reefs, underwater rock formations and hidden sea caves. There’s a good chance to see seahorses, starfish, octopus and if you’re lucky, the resident pod of dolphins.

Get rid of your tan lines on Playa de Cantarriján, one of the top clothing-optional beaches in Andalucia. The stretch of silver-pebble sand is set between rocky cliffs and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea. The lively beachfront bar serves ice-cold beer and tasty seafood paellas.

Getting around La Herradura
