Lisbon is a prominent district located along the coast of South Central Portugal containing the national capital city of its own respective name. It is comprised of sixteen different municipalities including the notable cities of Lisbon, Cascais, Mafra, Sintra, Oeiras and Lourinhã. The Lisbon District is remarked for its concentration of popular tourist regions, religious sights and educational institutions.

Prominent allures of the Lisbon District are highlighted by the capital city and its religious and cultural offerings, a variety of zoos and aquariums and natural attractions such as the Arrabida Natural Park. Popular sights include Belem Tower, bustling Rossio Square and the exquisite Lisbon Cathedral. The notable Lisboa Wine Region boasts medieval castles for sightseeing and the Ribatejo Province offers some of the most picturesque natural landscapes.

The Lisbon District is serviced by the Lisbon Portela International Airport situated in the capital city of Lisbon. Transit in the district varies from area to area but is primarily composed of an individual metro, bus and train network that run both local and domestic routes. The River Tagus provides additional boat transit options based out of three primary stations.

The Lisbon District included the area now referred to as the Setúbal District until its official distinction in 1926.
