About Lochinver

Offering magnificent views towards the rugged summit of Suilven, Lochinver is an atmospheric fishing port on Scotland’s west coast. It is located along the North Coast 500, an 830-kilometre-long scenic drive that begins and ends at Inverness Castle.

Lochinver is an ideal base for scaling the summit of Suilven, which rises above the wild moors, bogs and lochs of Inverpolly National Nature Reserve. For a gentler walk, you can explore the tree-lined paths of the Culag Woods or enjoy the splendid loch views on the River Inver and Glencanisp Circuit.

Locally-made ceramics can be found at Highland Stoneware Pottery, while fish pies and sweet treats are for sale at the Lochinver Larder. It’s a great place to pick up supplies before heading north-west for a day on the white sands of Achmelvich Beach. It’s a popular destination for windsurfing, kayaking and fishing for cod, haddock and whiting.

Getting there

Lochinver is just under an hour’s drive from Ullapool and two hours from Inverness. Inverness Airport is just over two hours away and has flights to destinations across Europe. Buses travel to Lochinver and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
