About Nejran

Najran is an ancient city known for its archaeological sites, traditional mud-brick architecture and Arabic petroglyphs. In the city, historic palaces, bazaars and cultural villages offer a unique chance to experience authentic Saudi Arabia traditions.

Things to do in Nejran

Built in the 1940s, Emarah Palace is set in the heart of Najran and is known for its traditional mud bricks and white accents. Inside is a small museum showcasing glass, metals, pottery and bronze artefacts found at nearby archaeological sites.

Archaeologists can visit the mountain passes of Bir Hima. The soft sandstone rocks are engraved with thousands of ancient inscriptions and early Arabic petroglyphs, some dating back to 469 CE. Nearby is Al-Ukhdud, a famous archaeological site mentioned in the Holy Quran.

Abu As-Su’ud Traditional Village offers a hands-on glimpse at life in rural Saudi Arabia. It's dotted with Yemeni style mud brick buildings, some over six storeys high. Wander around the village, explore the traditional buildings and relax under the shade of the lush palm trees.

Completed in the 1980s, Najran Valley Dam is one of the biggest water reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. Park your car and stroll across the concrete bridge for a bird's-eye view of the dam or sit in the shade and enjoy a scenic picnic.
