Things to do
Sippy Downs is a stone's throw from Mooloolah River National Park. Made up of eucalypt forests, banksia woodlands and tea tree swamps, it serves as an important habitat for local wildlife. The park is laced with bushwalking tracks where you can spot kangaroos, koalas, cockatoos and other native animals.
For a relaxing day in the sun, head to the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens. The gardens sit on the western side of Sippy Downs and are brimming with local flora and fauna. You can peer into rock pools, wander around fern glades and explore wetlands. Keep an eye out for colourful whipbirds and fairywrens.
The Mooloolah River cuts through the heart of the Sunshine Coast. With its calm water and diverse wildlife, it's a great place to canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Sign up for a guided tour or paddle solo while soaking up the picturesque views of riverbanks flooded with wildflowers.
Drive 10 minutes to Mooloolaba, a trendy coastal town fringed by a postcard-perfect sandy beach. It's anchored by a lively seafront esplanade lined with outdoor cafes, organic juice bars and independent boutiques. Nearby Mooloolaba Spit lures sunseekers in with its sheltered swimming and breezy seafood restaurants.
Sippy Downs is well-serviced by public buses that run throughout the Sunshine Coast. A rental car will give you the freedom to explore at your own pace. The drive from Brisbane takes around 90 minutes.
