About Suseong-gu

Located between the centre of Daegu and the neighbouring city of Gyeongsan, Suseong-gu is an upmarket residential district in South Korea. It’s home to the impressive collection of the Daegu National Museum and the striking Daegu Art Museum, as well as leafy parks dedicated to baseball and family fun.

Things to do in Suseong-gu

Archaeological finds from across the region are on display at the Daegu National Museum, which occupies a public park in Suseong-gu. Established in 1994, it holds around 30,000 artefacts that range from Stone Age tools and Joseon era ceramics to traditional clothing representing Daegu’s textile industry. Outside the museum are several Bronze Age dome houses and earthenware kilns, as well as stone pagodas from the Unified Silla Period.

Also not to miss is the Daegu Art Museum, which is dedicated to showcasing and promoting Daegu’s contemporary artists. In addition to its changing exhibitions on leading trends in the global arts scene, it hosts art-related lectures and educational programs for people of all ages. Art-focused books are available to browse in the third-floor Art Information Center.

In the south of Suseong-gu is Suseongmot, an artificial lake created under Japanese colonial rule to supply water to nearby agricultural areas. Today, it provides a recreational hub for local residents and boasts a popular musical fountain. A short stroll from the lakeshore is Suseong Land, a family-friendly theme park with bumper cars, a merry-go-round and a Viking ship.

Getting around Suseong-gu

Suseong-gu is around 20 minutes by train from the centre of Daegu and about an hour from Daegu International Airport, which has flights to destinations across Asia. Trains connect along two lines of the Daegu Metro to stations throughout Suseong-gu, with buses accessing most of the district’s attractions.
