About Wenshan District

Wenshan is an escape within Taipei city, a holiday retreat ringed by scenic mountains. Locals and travellers alike frequent Wenshan District to hike scenic mountain trails, visit the Taipei Zoo and relax in one of the many teahouses. It scarcely feels like an urban area at all.

Things to do in Wenshan District

The Maokong was once the biggest tea growing area of Taipei. You can come here to learn about Taiwanese tea culture, but the real attraction is the walking trails. Footpaths wind between the rocks and forests, and there are a number of observation points from where you’ll have impressive views back across Taipei. At the weekends especially, Maokong is a popular spot for local families who come to hike and picnic.

If you’re looking for a slightly quieter area to explore, Xianji Rock Mountain rises up above Wenshan. It has well-marked hiking trails and impressive city skyline views.

In Wenshan you’ll find Taipei Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Asia. It’s a global leader in conservation and education, and there are animals here from around the world. Getting there

Wenshan is on the Taipei Metro network, served by the Wenhu and Songshan–Xindian Lines. There are 10 stations that fall within the district, making many of the city’s attractions easy to reach. Minibuses whizz back and forth between Taipei Zoo and Maokong Station, where you can connect to the Maokong Gondola.
