Ayers House is a handsome inner-city mansion reimagined as a museum, restaurant and boutique venue for weddings and parties. The house has been beautifully restored and is one of the finest examples of Colonial Regency and Victorian architecture in South Australia.
The mansion cradles more than 150 years of Australian history and is named after Sir Henry Ayers, who served five terms as Premier of South Australia during the 1800s. The house was designed by Irish architect, Sir George Strickland Kingston, and boasts 40 rooms filled with beautiful antiques and colonial homewares.
Visit the Ayers House Museum, where you can admire colonial costumes, artwork and silverware. Highlights include a sparkling chandelier that weighs more than 300 kilograms. The former bedrooms house Henry's Restaurant, a fine-dining venue and cocktail bar.
Getting there
Ayers House is located on North Terrace in Adelaide’s city centre, just steps from the Botanic Gardens light rail station. Local buses stop within a five-minute walk of Ayers House and Adelaide Train Station is a 15-minute walk away. Adelaide Airport is a 20-minute drive or 40-minute bus ride away.
