About Kobuleti

Overlooking the Black Sea, Kobuleti is a popular resort town in Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of Adjara. It was referred to as “Çürüksu” under Ottoman rule and has since become a favourite destination for landlocked Armenians to spend their summer holidays. In addition to its pebbly beach, the town is home to an abundance of restaurants and bars.

Things to do in Kobuleti

You can learn about the people and events that have shaped the region at the Kobuleti Museum, which occupies a stately, columned building in the heart of town. Its collection dates back to the Stone Age, with ancient tools, pottery, coins and manuscripts on display. Browse the ethnographical artefacts and the old photographs that are exhibited, many of which detail the rich culture of Adjara.

In the summer months, visitors flock to the pebbly shores of Kobuleti Beach, which is a popular spot for sunbathing, swimming and a range of water sports. South of the Kintrishi River is Bobokvati Beach, a slightly quieter option with wide sands. A breezy walking trail hugs the coastline and there are plenty of restaurants where you can dine throughout the day.

In the nearby village of Tsikhisdziri is the Petra Fortress, which was built by John Strathegos in 535 AD. Its atmospheric ruins include ancient baths, farmhouses and soldiers’ residences, as well as a basilica that’s believed to date from the 7th century. From its hilltop setting, it offers sweeping views across the rolling hills of Adjara and the azure waters of the Black Sea.
