Where to stay in Tugun

About Tugun

Tugun is a laid-back coastal community that captures the spirit of Gold Coast living. The town is known as “Tugz” by locals and lures visitors in with its gorgeous beaches and trendy cafes. Easy access to local attractions such as Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Dreamworld makes Tugun an ideal base for Gold Coast getaways.

Things to do

Soft sand, rolling waves and minimal crowds make Tugun Beach one of the best-kept secrets on the Gold Coast. Lay down your towel on the sand and look north for fantastic views of the Surfers Paradise skyline. Nearby Coolangatta Beach is protected by a headland and is great for families. Surfers paddle out to Greenmount Point to ride the perfect right-hander. The local surf school is a great place to test your skills on a board.

Australians are passionate about coffee and Tugun is no exception. The town has a lively café culture, with local establishments serving everything from smoothies and acai bowls to smoked salmon bagels and breakfast burgers. For a casual evening meal, pick up a serving of fish and chips and visit Wyberba Street Reserve for dinner with a view.

Just north of Tugun, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary gets you up close with koalas, kangaroos, parrots and other Australian icons. Get face-to-face with enormous saltwater crocodiles and watch dingoes go for a daily walk through the park. Park hoppers enjoy easy access to Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World and Sea World.

Getting around

Tugun is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The main café strip is a short stroll from the beach. Parking is available on the street and Surfers Paradise is a 30-minute drive north. Gold Coast Airport is a five-minute drive away and Brisbane Airport is 1.5 hours north.
